Goodbye To July!

Posted by Frank Bray on

It's the end of July and I'm saying goodbye, farewell, so long.  July is my least favourite month - far too hot and humid. Most days in the workshop this month the temps have been over 80 degrees F and that's just too hot for me. At least most nights have been somewhat cooler and I've been more productive in the later evening hours.

This month I've spent a lot of time building two X-tra Wide Chelsea chairs. These take a lot more time to build than my standard-sized chairs but they are well worth it.  A customer messaged me a while back asking about chairs with an extra wide seat.  He wanted that but saw I was only offering the Yorktown model in that width and he liked the wider, rounded arms of the Chelsea wingback model.  So I came up with a solution for him:  an X-tra wide chair with Chelsea side frames.  He also didn't want a wingback chair so I said no problem I can delete the wings!

These wide chairs can't be shipped so the first of them was picked up around mid-month.  I just finished the second one yesterday and it's ready to go.

These are beautiful chairs.  The seat is 33 inches wide.  Plus, there's extra support in the middle of the seat/back frames,  so no matter where you sit,  whether it's on either end or right in the middle,  there's ample hip, thigh and lower back support.  Supremely comfy!

These chairs were finished in natural denim fabric which is very durable and easy to spot clean.  The Chelsea models also feature piping around the front arms for a nice bit of style.

Building these larger chairs in the workshop is always a challenge. The seat and back frames are so large they hang off my work table!  Here's one of the back frames in progress.

In addition to these two chairs I also have several other chair orders plus Ikea Strandmon rockers so I'll be busy going into August. Looking forward to some cooler days and nights in August.
