Yes I Make Kid's Rockers Too!

Yes I do make kid's rockers too!  These are adorable and sized just right for your toddler up to about 10 years of age or so.  These chairs are very well-built and can hold up to 200lbs.           These chairs are 3/4 versions of my adult rockers.  They are offered in Naptime or Manhattan styles with a variety of fabrics.     These chairs have a seat that measures about 15" square.  The seat, back and arms are well-padded for comfort. There are  no sharp edges anywhere.   What child wouldn't want their very own,  sized-to-fit chair?

How It's Made - Premium Seat Frame

Posted by Frank Bray on

How it's made: a premium seat frame. These are built from high-quality plywood (you will also hear it referred to by some as "engineered" wood). I tap oak hardwood dowels into the plywood and screw into these. Learned this technique years ago from a woodworking magazine and it works very well, makes a very solid joint. In addition to this, I add hardwood corner braces, glued and screwed into place for rock-solid construction. No creaking or squeaking of these frames! What you will find with much of today's furniture is that it is simply stapled together. This is not a...

Made In Canada!

Made In Canada!

For 20 years I've been designing and building rockers, gliders, ottomans and accessories.  They are all made right here in Belleville, Ontario Canada.   Over the years my customers have expressed appreciation for this fact.  There's always been a solid core of people who want made in Canada products - the pandemic buying surge was huge for me as  customer demand for my chairs reached all time highs.  This seems to have taken on even more importance with recent events.  When you buy Canadian-owned and Canadian-made,  you support this country's economy which has a huge ripple effect,  even for a one-man...

Making A Back Frame

Posted by Frank Bray on

Here I am making a back frame.   These are the same for all my chairs,  this one's slated for a Chelsea model.  I put a cross brace in the frame about a third of the way down from the top,  and it has a nice curve cut into into it.  This brace is about where your upper back or shoulder blades rest against the back when you are sitting in the chair,  and the curve allows the upholstery to gently flex but also support your back in this place.  So when you are sitting in my chairs this design tends...

My Rocker Parts Are Strong!

Posted by Frank Bray on

Ok, so I wanted to show you just how strong the runners (curved parts my chairs rock on) really are! So I stood on just one of two, a full 185 lbs in the middle and it didn't creak, bend or flatten one bit. These parts are made by laminating 5 pieces of wood into one and bending it on a jig (a curved form) and clamping in place for several hours until the glue dries. Incredibly strong! Now imagine 2 of these parts for every chair that can support 300lbs and you will see how well built my chairs...
