My Rocker Parts Are Strong!
Posted by Frank Bray on
Ok, so I wanted to show you just how strong the runners (curved parts my chairs rock on) really are! So I stood on just one of two, a full 185 lbs in the middle and it didn't creak, bend or flatten one bit. These parts are made by laminating 5 pieces of wood into one and bending it on a jig (a curved form) and clamping in place for several hours until the glue dries. Incredibly strong! These take a lot more time to build than my standard-sized chairs but they are well worth it. A customer messaged me...

Woodworking is only half of my business; the other half is the upholstery work. That involves a lot of sewing to finish the chairs perfectly. When I was a small child my mother sewed some of my clothes on an old Singer sewing machine and I used to hang around watching her work. When my sister came along she made pretty dresses for her. Fast forward 30 years and I was getting into woodworking and starting to make rocking chairs. I wanted to learn how to sew to make the chairs more professional looking. I bought a cheap sewing machine...
