Making A Back Frame
Posted by Frank Bray on
Here I am making a back frame. These are the same for all my chairs, this one's slated for a Chelsea model. I put a cross brace in the frame about a third of the way down from the top, and it has a nice curve cut into into it. This brace is about where your upper back or shoulder blades rest against the back when you are sitting in the chair, and the curve allows the upholstery to gently flex but also support your back in this place. So when you are sitting in my chairs this design tends to "cradle" your back and offer gentle support while you don't feel the frames. I think it's a wonderful design!
Another reason why my chairs are really so comfortable to sit in. Ergonomic design at its best!
